Spider-Man: No Way Home is an upcoming American film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. Spider-Man: No Way Home appears to be a Spider-Verse story on the surface, but a new rumor indicates that Marvel Studios has actually turned to a very different arc for the threequel’s inspiration.
The film is directed by Jon Watts, written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jamie Foxx, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Alfred Molina. It is the twenty-seventh film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fourth film of Phase Four.
On June 19, 2019, during an interview with Comicbook, Amy Pascal confirmed that a third movie was in the works and that titles such as Spider-Man: Home Run or Spider-Man: Homeless were being considered. On April 24, 2020, it was announced that the film had been pushed back from its initial release date to November 5, 2021. On February 23, 2021, Tom Holland, Jacob Batalon, and Zendaya posted the fake titles Spider-Man: Phone Home, Spider-Man: Home-Wrecker, and Spider-Man: Home Slice, respectively, on their Instagram accounts.
The next day, the Spider-Man: No Way Home official account posted a video on Twitter, in which they announced the true title, Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Filming began in October 2020 in New York City, and during filming, Foxx and Molina were revealed to be appearing in the film, reprising characters from past Spider-Man films. The shooting had also occurred in Los Angeles and Iceland and was concluded in mid-March.
The costume bears a striking resemblance to the one Peter designs for himself in the third act for Far From Home, albeit with a red waistband that doesn’t feature black/dark-blue accents like the previous version. “Happy Birthday” is reportedly only being used as inspiration for the film, so we don’t know how much of it will factor into what we see on screen.
