Hearing the word "Fitbit" the first question that comes to your mind is What is Fitbit? Do I need one? What's its function? Fitbit is a device to track steps. It helps in keeping a track of your daily steps. Fitbit is a company that makes fitness technology products.
They manufacture several different products and models. Every product has a slightly different list of features but the main role is to do step and activity tracking.
What information does a Fitbit track?
The main feature of the Fitbit is to track how many steps you take every day. It's very helpful for you as it tells your daily activity level if you are leading a sedentary life, a moderately active life, or an active life. A sedentary lifestyle may lead to many health problems over time.
In today's lifestyle, physical activity is just a word. People are so busy in their daily life that they do not exercise or do physical activity. In this busy schedule, Fitbit helps in maintaining the information about the calories burned and the distance you've walked.
Different models have different feature like:
- Sleep tracking.
- Heart rate tracking.
- GPS tracking.
- Music storage.
- Calls and text notifications.
Fitbit manufactures two lines of smartwatches, Versa and Sense. Both the watches have most of the features like a fitness tracker, step counter, heart rate, stairs climbed, sleep monitoring, and the number of calories burned. But Sense lines has a few more advantages over Versa. It comes with a few extra sensors like monitor skin moisture, an indicator of stress, and monitor for skin temperature. Sense lines come along with tools to manage stress and notify you of high and low heart rates.
How Fitbit works?
Fitbit products do different things, they all track steps. Some may recognize common exercises, like running, biking, and swimming. You can look at the Fitbit app to see your progress by day or by week and adjust your goal accordingly. These devices use an accelerometer to measure your movements. The accelerometer measures the movement data and translates it into digital measurements, which is how Fitbit counts your steps, and measures the distance traveled, calories burned, and sleep tracking.
Fitbit devices run on a proprietary operating system. Fitbit does not have access to mobile payment platforms from an outer source like Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Play.
It is different from smartwatches. Some smartwatches like Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch are quite more expensive than a Fitbit fitness band. If you need to buy a smartwatch being specific to fitness you should preferably go for Fitbit fitness bands as they are produced for fitness monitoring and are cheaper than most of the smartwatches like the Apple Watch or Samsung Watch.
Fitbit's newer versions can track sleep. They are set to track sleep automatically. Fitbit assumes sleep has begun when you don't move for more than an hour. It also helps in tracking heart rate, they are equipped with a “PurePulse” sensor. They use LED lights that reflect on the skin to detect any changes in blood volume.
You can easily set up your Fitbit by connecting it to your Android, iOS, or Windows mobile devices. Download and install the app on your device. You need to create a Fitbit account and enter some basic information and just this all you have to do to use the FITBIT!
