Foundation VS BB Cream VS CC Cream

We often see people wondering what to do with their base, go natural with just a bb or a cc cream or go all glam with a full coverage foundation. Well, it all depends on what the occasion is and what you feel like. Some days we are just too tired to even wash our face and some days just too energetic that we take all our makeup out and start getting ready as if we have somewhere to go when in reality we don’t. That's the beauty of makeup. You don’t need a reason to wear it. You can walk out with a bare face or just glam up to sit in your room in your pajamas. It’s all about what you feel like.

But that’s not the topic for today. Since we are talking about basics, we need to understand the base of our makeup as well. So for today, we will understand the difference between a foundation, a BB, and a CC cream. While they might all look the same with the only difference in their coverage and prices, there’s a lot more to it. Let’s start one by one.

Foundation VS BB Cream VS CC Cream

BB CREAM

Originally marketed as a beauty balm or blemish balm, a BB cream is a product designed to replace or minimize the use of foundation. Since foundations earlier were heavy and not the most comfortable thing on faces, BB creams stepped in with a much more comfortable formula and also less expensive. They are primarily designed with the intention of providing hydration and coverage enough to cover the blemishes on the face but still appearing very natural and skin-like. Since it has a moisturizing formula, it was much more preferred by the dry skin people than the oily skin ones. It is also sometimes referred to as a tinted moisturizer because of its ability to hydrate and provide coverage that is enough to cover blemishes and even out the skin texture while providing a clean and natural look.

Who should use it?

Ideally, BB creams are meant for dry skin people since it will not be broken down by their oils and reduce its longevity like oily skin people, some oily skin people still use it and then apply powder over it just to mattify it. This will increase its longevity and also give a semi-matte appearance ideal for oily to combination skin type people.

When to use it?

BB creams are the best fit for everyday makeup because they can be easily applied with fingers saving time and effort. People who are not the biggest fan of foundations can use them on special occasions as well. You can apply BB cream as your base and go over with concealer in areas that need a little more coverage and you’re good to go.

CC CREAM

CC stands for color control or color correcting cream. They were brought to light after the launch of BB creams. Since BB creams are low on coverage, CC creams are the perfect replacement for foundations. They are intended to reduce skin redness and sallowness and have more coverage than a BB cream but less than a foundation. Since they are a cream they are also light on the skin and much more easy to apply.

Who should use it?

CC creams have a matte texture and hence cater towards oily to combination skin people, unlike a BB cream which is much more hydrating and ideal for dry skin people.

When to use it?

They are also meant for everyday use as they provide a skin-like appearance but cover all the necessary areas evening out the skin. It can also be used on special occasions.

FOUNDATION

I’m sure everybody is aware of what a foundation is, but to describe it much more clearly it is a liquid or powder makeup used to even out the skin complexion by covering the imperfection of the face.

IT has been used for years and years and people have seen too many launches and types of foundations. Today at this point, there is a foundation suitable for every skin tone, every skin type, and every person. With so much to choose from, it sometimes becomes tricky to pick the correct shade or correct formulation. Hence in order to match yourself correctly, you must educate yourself with your skin type and undertones because that’s how foundations are differentiated and marketed.

Who should use it?

Foundations can be used by anybody as long as you match yourself correctly. This is important because if you don’t use the correct shade or correct formulation suitable for your skin type and undertone, it might end up looking cakey or crusty.

When to use it?

Foundations can be pretty much used as and when you feel like. There are people who wear it daily and then people who use it on occasions. If you want to wear it daily by all means go ahead but try to find a drop foundation or a sheer to medium coverage foundation. This will ensure you get the desired coverage but don’t feel heavy on your skin as well.
